The Big Idea

Like any number of lofty schemes, the idea for BrewLocal was hatched around a table over a couple of great beers by a couple of good friends. "Wouldn't it be awesome to brew with X", (in this equation X= any number of the small, independent brewers that we envy).

Craft brewers by reputation are a hospitable bunch: beer is THE GREAT social drink, the drink that spans socio-economic and cultural divides right? We both have a strong sense of community and a deep respect for artisanship: we're both home brewers and beer geeks, usually in that order.

It is our intention to seek out America's passionate, creative, ambitious and obsessed brewers, then spend a day brewing on their system and learning their philosophy. We're both curious by nature and why not learn from the best, use this forum to share that knowledge and most importantly make some new friends along the way. BrewLocal is in search of the thoughtful, the inspirational...it's a journey towards the New American Beer.

We welcome your comments, feedback and encouragements.

Many Thanks,
Mike and Nathan

  1. Wow, you guys really hit the mark with this blog. I have never seen such a thorough look at the craft from the perspective of a professional brewer and one so wonderfully targeted towards the home brewer or beer enthusiast.

Keep up the great work, and I look forward to reading more entries from your global adventures in brewing. Move over Charlie Papazian, Mike and Nathan are taking your homebrewed adventures into the 21st century!

  2. I'm really enjoying the site so far! As a budding pro brewer, it's great to get an inside look at other breweries to get a different perspective on brewing setup and technique. Just as seeing other homebrewers brew might give you new ideas that you never would have thought of, you can always pick up a new trick in the pro brewing world too. I haven't seen Old Dominion, in NYC, but I'll be sure to buy a pint when I see it.
